Overview

Mount Tambora is located in Bima Regency and Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara province, and is part of the Mount Tambora National Park area. This mountain is famous for its giant caldera at an altitude of 2,850 MASL which was formed as a result of a powerful eruption in 1815. The eruption reached a scale of VEI 7 (Volcanic Explosivity Index) and was recorded as the largest volcanic eruption in modern history, surpassing even the eruption of Mount Taupo in 181. In addition to its unique and fascinating caldera, this region has a wealth of nature that is challenging to explore. Visitors can explore the jungle (jungle tracking) through three main hiking trails: Piong/Sanggar, Kawindato'i, Pancasila, and Doro Ncanga. During the trip, climbers can enjoy biodiversity, including various types of rare birds such as small yellow-crested cockatoos, red-headed parrots, Australian puppies, Green Partridges, Bondol Eagles, Kite kites, to Srigunting. With its historical value, natural beauty, and rich biodiversity, Mount Tambora has been designated as a National Geopark on November 20, 2017 by the National Geopark Committee of Indonesia.(http://ppebalinusra.menlhk.go.id)
